Why does Erectile Dysfunction Occur as a Man gets Older?
By Dr. Monroe
While erectile dysfunction can occur at any age, it is very rare for it to affect a male under the age of 35. It is going to occur as a man gets older due to many changes in the body. First, the male hormone called testosterone will start to drop off in production. Around the are of 35, that production drops by about 1% annually.
As a man gets older he is more likely to suffer from many health problems. They can include heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Such concerns are often linked with erectile dysfunction as well. By doing all you can to keep these problems under control, you can reduce your overall risk.
As a male gets older, the metabolism is also going to slow down. Up to that point, he may have eaten what he wanted and not thought twice. Yet the extra pounds are starting to add up around the waist line. Obesity is a leading cause of erectile dysfunction. The older a man gets, the harder it is for him to change habits such as his diet. It can also be harder for him to have enough energy for plenty of daily exercise.
Stress levels seem to increase as a man gets older. In his younger days, he was carefree and the future seemed so far away. Now he may realize he has a family to care for, a mortgage, car payments, retirement to plan for, and so much more. With the economy being how it is, many males are stressed out day in and day out.
Lifestyle habits can also affect erectile dysfunction as a man gets older. Smoking reduces the amount of nitric oxide in the body, and that is an necessary agent for an erection to occur. Drinking often will also increase the chances of a man suffering from erectile dysfunction.
Why you can't do much about the number of years you have on you, changes can be made to reduce how old your body is in terms of aging. Doing all you can early on to stay healthy will significantly reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction occurring as you get older.
